The group posing with their Parish Priest Fr. Gerald Obassi |
The future of every structure or community depends on the readiness
of its younger generation to take over. This Sunday March 16, 2014, the St
Augustine Youths of Mbelem Catholic Church proved to the congregation that they
are ready for the churches tomorrow. In a finely executed choir the youths
thrilled the Christians to singing like never before. Their new uniform
coupled with their angelic voices gave many the impression that the entire
heavenly choir of angels was around.
Reflecting on the transfiguration, Rev. Fr Obassi Gerald
encouraged the Christians and the youths in particular to use the period of
lent for self-transformation. Hard work he emphasized is the key to success. That
is represented by the cross and the Stations of the Cross being said now. Examining
the person of Jesus Fr Gerald pointed out that as the name says “God Saves” he
remains truly a savior by nature.

In a colorful offertory procession the youths offered a bin
to the church a gift which was greatly appreciated by the Christians. Speaking ahead
of the final blessing Fr Gerald observed that after emerging the Parish youth
group of the year in 2013, the groups has continued to leave up to expectation.
According to the Rev. the group’s ability to accept their third place in the
choral competition ahead of the World Youth Day signifies maturity and discipline
values he greatly cherished.
At the close of the Mass Christians showed their
appreciation through the cutting of the uniform inaugural cake. It is worth
noting that St Augustine Youth group is one of the seven youth groups in St
Michael’s Parish Futru Nkwen. This year the Parish will be hosting the
Archdiocesan world youth Day for Bamenda Archdiocese and so having active
groups like this can be assuring that the ceremony is being well prepared.
