Bamenda city dwellers got up this Sunday and were welcomed
by banners across the City announcing what may eventually turn out to be a
birthday party; The Silver Jubilee of Cameroon’s most populous opposition
political party The Social Democratic Front, SDF. Banners are in Nkwen, on the
commercial avenue, Atuazire and Ntarikon areas of the city. These banners went
up this 16th the day the National Chairman of the SDF, John Fru Ndi
is expected to address a Press Conference in the Nation’s Capital Yaounde.
While the party says at 25 she is proud promising that the
struggle continues, many across Bamenda are of the opinion that the party is
losing a reasonable quantity of its popularity and hence the need for more
dynamism.
With over a hundred million budgeted, many see the anniversary as a "Birthday Party" not a commemoration as they would have expected.
With no clear source of income, militancy recruitment
strategy and no communication outlet, there are worries as to how this party
can effectively bring change to Cameroon. What will the Silver Jubilee bring?
We are your eyes and ears.
