"Yaa Cardi" Mother of Christian Cardinal Tumi |
Her age
When this Yaa as the Nso-man will prefer to call her as a sign of
respect joined her ancestors June 8, 2015, at the St Elizabeth Catholic General
Hospital Shisong just shortly after 8:30, she was about 117years old. This is
not a common achievement these days; the richest and the most educated die
these days before their 60th or 70th birthday. While many
think that 117 was her age, we see more than that. However this is not a
subject for a debate but we think that just her long lifespan which almost tripled
the estimated lifespan is considered by hilltopvoices as a reward for her goodwill.
Her death announcement
In less than 30mins after her death was announced, it spread like
wild fire on social media. I am sure Yaa never knew what facebook or twitter is
but her dead was announced everywhere on these Media. Not certainly in regret
though but as a show of love and thanks giving to God for the life of Mami
Cardi. For her Goodwill, hilltopvoices think that God rewarded her with the Biblical
narration of Good telling one of his messengers that his Children will be like
the sand on the sea shore or like the stars in the Sky so they could announce
her passage from this life in triumph.
Cardinal’s Mother
Christian Cardinal Tumi |
Born 117years ago as the case may be right now, little did this “Ordinary
Village Woman” of Kikaikelaki K4 imagine that someday the fruit of her womb
will produce one of the world’s well known Religious leaders; Christian
Cardinal Tumi who is respected and even feared in Cameroon by some authorities
of the land. I am sure even in her innocence she dies without knowing what it
means in the society to be mother of a Spiritual leader of Cardinal Tumi’s caliber.
How else can we say God rewarded goodwill in this woman?
State Honours
My research has
not given me data of Yaa Cardi going to school but her contributions to Nation
building was celebrated by the Government of Cameroon on May 20, 2013 as she was decorated as Knight
of the Cameroon Order of Merit in K4. Even a government that is insensitive to justice
like ours could not contain the case of this woman.
Many things could be said about Yaa Cardi but let’s leave it here
for now hoping that hilltopvoices will have the means to join the thousands planning
to attend a burial in the days ahead in Kumbo.
Funeral Programme
We have it that her mortal remains will be removed from the
Shisong Catholic Hospital Mortuary on Friday, June 26 at 3pm, after which they
will be installed at the family residence in Waigoilum-Kikaikelaki at 4pm. A
funeral Mass will be said at the Kikaikelaki church at 6pm, followed by an
all-night church vigil. The final funeral Mass will be said at 10am on
Saturday, June 27 at the Kumbo St. Theresia Cathedral, followed by burial.
