Enshrined in Section 11.2 of the Social Democratic Democratic Front SDF, the Shadow Cabinet of Cameroon's lead opposition party is the "government in waiting."
According to the national chairman of the party this is "a forum where government policies, decisions and actions are scrutinized in support of the parliamentary actions of the SDF Parliamentary Group and the discussions at the SDF National Executive Committee (NEC).
Talking to HILLTOPVOICES on the sidelines of the Bamenda "Cabinet meeting" Professor emeritus Shadow cabinet Minister for Youth Affairs and Civic service Paul Nkwi observed that "the shadow cabinet was formed to better prepare the party for a possible take over." According to Prof Paul Nkwi the SDF was not prepared in 1992 when they were purportedly stripped off victory at the Presidential polls.
Though not satisfied with the functioning of his cabinet ministers, party chairman Fru Ndi while opening the cabinet meeting acknowledged that the party was providing very little means for the ministers but with the hope to do better in future.
The October 2, 2015 meeting according to Fru Ndi was an opportunity for exchange between those who have served in a real government and those who have not.
Talking to the press at the close of the meeting Shadow Cabinet Minister for Education and Training Hon Tasi Ntang Lucas noted that the meeting gave a real moment for capacity enhancement. He believes it was a necessity though it was happening for the first time since creation several years back.
