Roads leading to Gayama in Fogom subdivision
of Menchum Division and Mbonso in Mbiame subdivision of Bui Division all in the
North region have emerged as some of the most recent landmark achievements by
GP-DERUDEP phase II and the Grassfield Participatory and Integrated Rural
Development Project GP-IRDP. These projects featured outstanding amongst others
during the evaluation of the projects for the said semester by the steering
committee meeting in Bamenda Friday June 23, 2017 under the chairmanship of
North West Governor Adolph LeleL’Afrique who doubles as President of GP-DERUDEP
Steering Committee.
While accessing the works done in the various
basins of Santa, Tubah, Gayama Mboh Mbonso, representatives of the basins
presented the state of projects realized so far. The in camera session Governor
Lele Adolph told the press at the meeting that realization is close to
30percent. “It is true that the project is still facing some difficulties but
recommendations have been given to the representatives of the various basins to
redouble their efforts to accompany the projects there.” The governor observed.
The Steering Committee meeting attended for
the first time by two new members Messrs Aal Focal Point at MINEPAT for the
Islamic Development Bank IDB and the new regional delegate for agriculture and
rural development Joachim Metoh Mbah the governor noted was of “utmost importance
to the continued good performance of the project” as failure could “compromise
the future of the project if not well handled.”
The audit
report of projects accounts from January to December 2016 was presented and
adopted scoring the managers lead by the Project Coordinator Muluh Gregory high
for transparency in the management of the funds within the specified time
frame. The meeting also went on to examine the progress report of project realized
as at 31 May, 2017 at the time an Africa Development Bank ADB mission has just
supervised the projects. According to the committee members the project is on a
good footing with the possibility of achieving its goals to the satisfaction of
the very demanding and exigent population of the North West Region.
Apart from the Potatoes farms in the Santa
basin, Palm nurseries in the Widikum basin and irrigation in the Tubah basin, the
Gayama road project in the Gayama basin as carved out by the project leads to
the Gayama settlement area where hitherto could only be accessed by air. The
59km stretch of road from Esu Village in Menchum leads to one of the most
enclave parts of Cameroon. On the other hand the Mbonso road covering about
35km touching Ndu and Nwa Subdivisions for the Mbonso basin are undoubtedly the
outstanding success story of the project. With some funds available and staff
recruited and presented to the committee, it is expected that many more
projects will be realized in the selected areas. The finding for these projects
stand at FCFA 50bn from IDB and ADB
