The Elective General Assembly of North West Fon’s Union
NOWEFU has been announced for the 25th of November, 2017 in Nkambe
Donga Mantung Division of the North West Region. The date for the Elective
General Assembly EGA is contained in invitations circulating across the region
inviting the region’s administration and key actors the traditional rulers for
the conclave.
Sources in Nkambe have confirmed that Senator Fon Teche Njie
acting President of the institution was in Nkambe to lay ground for the
assembly. He is said to have visited the Mayor of Nkambe the Divisional Officer
for the Nkambe Central Subdivision and the Senior Divisional Officer for Donga
Mantung to inform and invite them to the EGA.
Talking to the Press at the close of the visits, the
outgoing President explained that the EGA could not hold last year because of
the state affairs in the region. With sporadic confrontations every now and
then, the Fon-Politician added that it was risky to be moving the Fons up and
down. He also assured that Nkambe is set
to host the Fon’s gathering. He used the Press exchange to invite the people of
Donga Mantung to turn out in their numbers to give their fathers; the Fons of
the North West a deserved reception.
The Fon’s EGA has been postponed on several occasions for
diverse reasons with the current executive accused of trying to twist the
constitution, hold onto power and deny others their right to lead the
prestigious Fon’s Union.
It is expected that a new leadership will emerge at the
close of the assembly in Nkambe with the host division expected to produce the
new President as per the standing orders of the Union which prescribes rotation
of the presidency amongst the Divisions of the NW.
No Fon has been tipped favourite for the function but there
are growing fears that if the proposed constitution proposed by the leader of
the Ngemuwah people and current president of NOWEFU sees the light of day, the
new president may just be a figure head as there is the insertion of the post
President General which sounds honourary and will not resect the rotation
principle in the Union.
