NDEFCAM at seven |
A Bamenda
based radio station broadcasting on FM 94.9 has celebrated the 7th
anniversary of existence. NDEFCAM radio located on the Ghana Street Nkwen
Neighborhood staged a grand event to mark seven years of existence in Bamenda Friday
December 22, 2017.
Amongst the many things that made the NDEFCAM
anniversary event thick was the 2017 Community Based Initiative Development
Media Award that offered NDEFCAM radio the opportunity not only to pull to
their event but also celebrate some big names for outstanding contributions to
community development through the discharge of their respective duties.
The likes of Senate Vice President and Former
Prime Minister Simon Achidi Achu and Former Parliamentarian Hon Tasi Ntang
Lucas who addressed the event praised NDEFCAM Radio for playing a leading role
in the media landscape in the North West Region and beyond. While the Rt Hon
Simon Achidi Achu laid emphasis on the need for laureates to empower their kids
for the future by giving them education, Hon Tasi Ntang in a presentation
titled “domains of Democracy” expressed the wish for Cameroon to be fully
democratized as the best way to address some of its fundamental problems.
Charles Sama Ace CRTV journalist and Chairman
of the Award committee congratulated the laureates urging them to see the
awards as a means of motivation for more work in the days ahead. Corroborating
NDEFCAM’s founder and Chief Executive Officer Nde Edmond noted that it gives
him joy when people come together and more so celebrating. Referring to seven
as a biblical year for completion, Nde Edmond described NDEFCAM as a complete
radio now.
Amongst the laureates was the Rt Hon Simon
Achidi Achu who emerged Legendary Icon of the year together with Hon Tasi Ntang
Lucas. The Mayors of Tubah Tanjong Martins Mushongong and Bamenda II Awah
Fedelis grabbed the best mayor award. For other winners: Best Radio Foundation
Radio, Best Health program; Free HIV NW/SW program of the CBC health services,
Best Agronomist and agriculturalist; Peter Ngufor of Farmer’s house Bamenda
amongst others.
As the laureates immortalized their awards in
picture, this reporter spoke to Wanchia Cynthia who emerged best Journalist of
the year. “I sincerely want to thank the organizer for this recognition; it’s
very rare to find a media house recognizing the work being done by someone in
another media house. I promise my listeners that I will do all to be better in
what I do that is passing out information to the public.” She said.
Azeh David Mofor Principal of Progressive
Comprehensive High School who emerged Best Secondary School principal told this
reporter “when you are climbing the hill of work don’t get tired. Sometimes
when it is very disillusioning, when you feel frustrated and think that there
is no body watching; there are so many invisible eyes watching…… there is
nothing that is as lighting as education and it can lead you anywhere in the
world I am very grateful today.”
Justifying
the awards, NDEFCAM authorities say the laureates were nominated and voted by
their audience via interactive live calls and messages during their programs.
NDEFCAM radio celebrates the 7th
anniversary with the fact that they broadcast online, provide equal work
opportunities for all including persons with disabilities and training ground
for young journalists as some of their major achievements.
