Councilors
of the Fundong council in Boyo Division have validated the updated Council
Development Plan CDP.
Launched in 2016 during the Administrative and Management
Accounts session, the updated CDP saw the light of day Friday April 13 during a
similar council session chaired by Mayor Denis Awoh Ndang that also gave room
for the adoption of the council’s accounts for 2017.
According
to the Mayor “the importance of this working document cannot be over
emphasized. It remains the only most important working development document not
only at the level of the Council but at the national and international levels.”
Denis Awoh Ndang expressed the hope for future usage stating “that the
government will use it to program its public investment budget PIB for the
municipality and funding partners both at the national and international level
shall exploit it each time they want to come to our assistance.”
Presenting
the CDP for validation on behalf of Society for Initiatives in Rural
Development and Environmental Protection SIRDEP being the local support
organization LSO, Tombir Stanley explained that it was necessary to update the
plan mindful of the fact that the first plan did not take into consideration
like the present one issues about climate change, children, persons living with
disabilities PWDs, vulnerable members of the population amongst others. The
plan that takes into consideration 27 communities in the Fundong municipality
he added has elaborated social, economic and environmental programs.
The
chairperson of the Steering Committee for the realization of the CDP Chia
Ernest Tufoin who also doubles as First Deputy Mayor for the Fundong Council
corroborated indicating that everyone including PWDs, Women and Youths took
active part in the process thus making participation effective.
Mayor
Denis Awoh Ndang on behalf of the Fundong Municipality did not however fail to
“appreciate the effort made by the National Community Driven Development
Program (PNDP) in accompanying Fundong in its development endeavours.” With
PNDP he added noted that the Fundong Council has been “involved in the
construction of two classrooms. A VIP toilet, a head teacher’s office and the
extension of portable water to GS Ikuijua and will soon engage in the
construction of Meshang Bridge at Akeh.”
Apart
from the PNDP projects, the Mayor also highlighted other projects realized
amongst them Bulldozing and opening of roads, addition and rehabilitation of
street lights, supply and provision of pipes and roofing sheets to needy
communities, construction of classrooms, bridges, box culverts, integrated Health
Center from both council funds and the Public Investment Budget.
The
Mayor also announced the eminent construction of the 108 sheds in the Fundong
Market to the tune of FCFA 250M coming from FEICOM.
Despite
the crisis, the councilor had to adopt a management account total that
witnessed an increase of above 22per cent even with a drop in internal revenue.
With an increase in external revenue from FEICOM, PNDP and State Subventions,
the budget realization rate went up to 70per cent.
Away
from celebrating their realization despite the challenges, the Council session
via the Mayor celebrated the election of one of theirs Councilor now Senator
Ajouh Ngam Honore elected on the SDF ticket during the March 25 Senatorial
elections.
