Not less than one person has been killed
following the blocking of the road in the Sabga hills on the Bamenda-Ndop road
by unknown gunmen. The man confirmed dead was found lying by the road on the
Sabga hill on the early hours of Saturday July 7. It made rounds that the
person found dead was a Gendarme officer and had been killed by unknown gunmen
who had blocked the road around that area.
According to information we cannot
independently confirm, the unknown gunmen mounted a control check point
presenting themselves as Ambazonia defense forces demanding for identification
papers from road users. It emerged that the officer who dressed in civilian
wear was pulled out and shut from an interurban transport vehicle.
Shortly after the news of the killing and
road blocking made rounds, reports say defense forces stormed the area where
gun battle ensued for some time. Information on the casualties have remain
sketchy but following sources around mile three Nkwen, three bodies were
transferred from a military vehicle to an ambulance later in the afternoon
suspected to have been a result of the Sabga incidence.
When we contacted people living in Bamesing
foot of the Sabga hill on Saturday evening, we gathered that many particularly
around the road had fled their homes. A source hinted that some young people in
the area have been arrested as a result of a foray later that Saturday.
The impact of the incident spread right to
Bambili where economic activities had to have closed down in broad day light
following military raids after it was rumoured that “Amba boys” were present in
Bambili.
Last Saturday’s action is the first along the
concerned stretch of road. The Bamenda-Ndop stretch of road comes after similar
cases of sporadic road blocks and controls reported along other roads like the
Bamenda-Fundong and Bamenda-Batibo.
