Ever since
he burst onto the music scene in 2014, world music songwriter, singer and live
stage performer Dolly Pearl, dubbed Prince of Afrobeat has been making upward
and forward strides, as an independent artist under his own label Crowner
Entertainment.
Apart from releasing 3 singles available on global digital music
distribution platforms like iTunes, Spotify, etc.,
Dolly has
also put out topnotch music videos and most impressively, created a huge catalogue
of unreleased songs which he has been performing with his own live music band
Wuli’bali, a 16 piece orchestra.
In October
2018, Dolly Pearl took his live music stage prowess to the highly competitive
Nigerian music market where he performed as closing act at the 2018 edition of
the reputable music event Felabration, a festival meant to celebrate the life
of Afrobeat creator and legend Fela Kuti. The more than 7000 Afrobeat lovers at
Felabration 2018, where instantly drawn to the highly melodious, cool paced
nature and mind pricking lyrical contents of Dolly’s masterpiece Waka-Waka,
which he performed at the event.
The song did not only wow the teeming audience
but it also attracted the executive attention of late Fela Kuti’s manager Rikki
Stein, who immediate requested to meet with the Waka-Waka crooner. Stepping off
the Felabration stage, Dolly Pearl was escorted straight to Rikki’s VIP
backstage corner, where he received a warm handshake and business card from
Rikki Stein himself.
Dolly
Pearl’s spot at Felabration, which ran from October 15th to 21st, 2018, in
Lagos, came right after Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, was ushered in
by Fela’s first son Femi Kuti. And it is worth noting that His Excellency the
vice president of Nigeria, left the Felabration venue very satisfied having
watched only one performance, which of course was the festival’s final
performance delivered by none other than Dolly Pearl.
