Christians
from the Cameroon Baptist Convention CBC, The Presbytarian Church in Cameroon
PCC and The Roman Catholic Church have resolve to unit in search for justice in
Cameroon particularly within the ongoing armed conflict and socio political
unrest in the North West and South West Regions.
The over six resolutions all connected
to fighting injustice as a way to peace were arrived Friday January 25 at PCC
Ntamulung during an ecumenical prayer session to mark the end of Week-long
prayers for Christian Unity.
Assembling
under the theme “Justice, Only Justice, You Shall Pursue” drawn from
Deuteronomy 16:20, the speakers during the separate events organized in the
different participating churches highlighted the need to promote truth,
equality and unity.
Amongst the
resolutions arrived at the end of the week, where to always as Christian
denounce just every an act of injustice is noticed with a chant from the first
to notice “Justice” and any other Christian is expected to answer “only justice we want.” They also resolved
that all Christian with issues in court against each other should withdraw such
matters and bring to the church to find a solution as the Bible demands.
On matters
of truth, the Christians resolved to go back to the traditional adage that says
“speak the truth and shame the devil.” By this it is a resolve to always be on
the side of truth no matter the difficulty and situation.
The come
together by the mainstream churches in the city to pray for peace and enforce
Christian unity comes in a particular context considering the crisis in the
North West and South West which is affecting the entire country.
With this in
mind, the Christians also resolved to be one and others keeper. By this they
want a situation where if a Christian especially religious or clergy is
unjustly arrested or abducted or attacked, everyone who believe in the force of
Christian Unity to standup for such a person and demand for justice for such a
person.
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is
observed from January 18 to 25 following the proposal of Servant of God, Fr.
Paul Wattson, Founder of the Society of the Atonement in1908 by, to cover the
original days of the Feasts of the Chair of St. Peter (January 18) and the
Conversion of St. Paul (January 25), and therefore have a symbolic
significance.
