Government Delegate, Mayors and LCC validate 30BFCFA Worth C2D transformation projects for Bamenda

The Government Delegate to the Bamenda City Council, the Mayors of Bamenda I, II and III and members of the Local Consultative Committee from the three council areas have met in a workshop to select and validate projects to be financed under the C2D program in Bamenda.
The workshop which is part of the participatory process as a main principle for the selection and validation of the projects took place Wednesday March 6 under the supervision of the Senior Divisional Officer SDO for Mezam represented by the deputy Andrew Monoke.

Speaking at the workshop, the Government Delegate to the BCC said during the pre-studies efforts were made to ensure an even distribution of the projects to all areas in the city. Maintaining that the funds were already available, the city delegate urged the Local Coordination Unit to do all within their power to begin the project within the shortest possible time mindful of the work already done particularly with the validation. 


Participants at the workshop deliberated on projects related to Road networks, Drainage and wastewater disposal, commercial equipment, small urban facilities, cultural, sports and relaxation facilities. These projects according to the Local Coordination Unit of the project in Bamenda is as a result of several activities amongst them the putting in place of Sub Divisional Local Consultative Committee LCC and a City-Wide Local Consultative Committee LCC, proposal and validation of projects, sites visits and shortlist of the project for final validation. 


After Arbitrating on the project envelops, components, the projects proper and project sites, the workshop participants being Local Consultative Committee LCC members amended for security reasons and other challenges prioritised the projects and approved for execution. 

 
It is expected that in the coming months, toilets will be constructed in over 25 schools in Bamenda, over 100 street lights planted across the city, Kilometres of standard roads and bridges constructed in the city, foot crossing linking quarters within the city, construction of garbage collection platforms, green spaces and markets with a regional and central bus terminal included in a global envelop of FCFA 30bn. 


In his remarks, the SDO’s representative encouraged the population to avoid being evasive particularly in areas like waste management where they can do much to keep the city clean. He encouraged city dwellers to be positive in the development of Bamenda and with the participatory approach objective time frames must be set to meet the needs to the population. “Despite the crisis, we are happy that the debt relief program has come to our door steps and so we must seize the opportunity and develop are city. He said.
