on May 3 in Bamenda. The media community in the North West Region has kicked off week long activities to mark this year’s edition of World Press Freedom Day.
Talking to the
Guardian Post, Ambe Macmillan Awa President of CAMASEJ NW preparations are
moving on as planned though with some challenges due to the on-going armed
conflict. “One of the things we intend to achieve with this year’s World Press
Day observance is to effectively identify and build a united media family in
the North West. To this effect we have planned a good number of activities that
will bring the entire media community in the region together. The organising
committee has been doing a good job though battling with challenges as a result
of the on-going socio politically crisis in the region but we think we are on
the right footing. There are some planned activities and actions that we may
not make public but trust me, we are looking for an event that will be
outstanding despite the challenges.”
Martial
Gnoukapas Chairman of the NW WPFD organising committee corroborated the
President stating “Am 80% ready considering majority of the materials required
to execute the programmed activities for 2019 WPFD are at hand.” He adds that
most of the planning has been done as relates the location for these
activities, dates and invitations. For
the visit to IDPs he explained “We
equally have identified a considerable number of internally displaced persons
we will be assisting on the 26th. They are aware we are coming.”
The advocacy
messages on the challenges facing the media in the region he says are ready and
are being distributed for publication and broadcast.
“The location proper for the celebration of
the event on the 3rd is known. We are
equally happy most of our partners are responding to our appeals for moral,
material and financial support to help us realize our activities. We seize this opportunity to thank them immensely. The media organs are cooperating interns of
providing airspace for special programs, debates and round table
conferences. We are positive our
authorization will be handy this week after discussions with the
administration. We equally program to have an almanac ready for onward
distribution on May 3rd and this activity has been assigned. In essence what we doing now are just moving
around to inspect all goes according to plan.” He said.
