Not fewer than 600 students of Impact Higher Institute of Professional Studies have been shortlisted to benefit from the on-going donation of presidential laptops to students of authorised functional higher institutions in the Country.
Dr Mengjo
Elvis Basang promoter and Director of Impact Polytechnic made public the
information in Bamenda April 16 during a twin event to hand over the laptops to
the first set of beneficiaries and also the report defence of some of the level
200 students who have been daring in attending school despite the on-going armed
conflict rocking the North West region. Not fewer than 600 students of Impact Higher Institute of Professional Studies have been shortlisted to benefit from the on-going donation of presidential laptops to students of authorised functional higher institutions in the Country.
Speaking
during the event, the promoter indicated that close to 400 students had
received their laptops already detailing that due to the crisis there has been
some displacement of the 2016/2017 students and that efforts were on to ensure
they all benefit from the presidential largess. “2016/17 academic year, Impact
Polytechnic had more than 600 students and these students all of them will
benefit. We have shared quite a good number because with the level of the
issues around the NW and SW regions some students have moved to other areas and
we are still trying to contact them. What happens in Impact is when you come to
register we have a directory where we have your contact number and as a school
each class has WhatsApp group so the information is easily circulated for the students
to know that such a thing has happened and they need to collect their laptops.”
With the computer training received compulsorily in the institute by all
students using the electronic note books have been received with satisfaction
and assurance of proper usage. Those who have not collected have been urged to
contact the school administration for theirs.
The PB
laptop handing over ceremony made way for some of the students of Impact
Polytechnic drawn from the departments of Human resource management,
Accounting, Management and Science of Education and journalism to defend their
reports in partial fulfilment of the award of the Higher National Diploma HND
and Higher Professional Diploma HPD. With the foundation of Impact Polytechnic
being in Kumbo one of the epicenter of the ongoing armed conflict in the NW
region, students have had a tough time attending school. “It has not been very
easy to arrive at this stage given the current political instability in this
part of the country… As a determined student, you need to go an extra mile to
do anything. Today we are defending but there are some people out there who do
not know that there are students studying even on their own to achieve what
they want. Today I am defending but I am depending so much on God to make it in
this exam.” Kindzeka Blandine a
journalism student said
