The Bishop of Kumbo Diocese
His Lordship George Nkuo has made a challenging trip to Njinikom his village of
origin to ordain his fellow village brother Rev Linus Kang as priest of the St
Joseph Missionary Society also known as Mill Hill Missionaries.
The Priestly
ordination Pontifical Mass Saturday 15 at the St Anthony’s Parish Church
started slightly above an hour late due to security challenges the Bishop had
to bypass before arriving Njinikom. On his way for the ordination mass in Njinikom
we gathered the Bishop spent a long time trying to negotiate his way after he
was blocked by an armed group in Baingo; a locality just after the Mbingo
Baptist Hospital. The Bishop who is very familiar with such actions especially
in his Diocese of Kumbo however will finally get to Njinikom unharmed, looking
calm and determined to see his brother through into the secret order of
ministerial priesthood. Like the Bishop, Rev Fr Richard Njoroge, Superior
General St Joseph Missionary Society and other Christians were blocked for
several hours on the way.
Opening his ordination homily,
Bishop George Nkuo looking sincere as always told the gathering that had it
been that the Superior General was not allowed to pass he would have boarded a
motorcycle with the priest to be (Rev Linus) and they do a street ordination. Visibly
satisfied that he was returning to his home parish just after two years for the
ordination of another Priest, Bishop Nkuo said the Mill Hill missionaries have
found fertile ground for vocations in Njinikom. Christened, priest of the new
covenant, Rev Linus Kang was challenged to enforce the universal law of love
and to love just every one even those who had blocked the bishop and others
like the Mill Hill superior at Baingo for hours, almost thwarting the
ordination. He was asked to be ready to suffer and not to fear because the
church in Njinikom that has been for over a century shall always pray for him.
On behalf of the laity, the
vice president of the Njinikom parish pastoral council, Chiabi Lawrence
congratulated the Kangsons family for offering their son to serve in the lords
vine yard.
According to Rev Fr Richard
Njoroge, Superior General of the St Joseph Missionary Society in Cameroon, “As
3rd Mill Hill priest from Njinikom, it is true that the parish has now mature
and now is sending missionaries to the world.” He went on to note that the
ordination of Rev Linus Kang bears testimony of the growth of the church in Njinikom
and the entire dioceses.
Rev Fr Linus Kang, standing at
the same alter he had served as alter server years before answering the call to
priesthood publicly took a commitment with his entire Christian community.” I
want t promise you all my parents and brothers and sisters that I will be a
good priest” he said. In the presence of the Christian community, he vowed to
preach the gospel and the catholic faith resolving to be like Jesus Christ
founder of Christianity.
The newly ordained Rev Fr Linus
Kang will begin his shall in the arch dioceses of Juba south Sudan. While
announcing his next destination the Mill Hill Superior General, Rev Richard
Njoroge said “you will move from one ground zero to another. You will be an
instrument of peace and love to people who have not known peace for ages. You
will be a Sheppard, the Sheppard who can small his sheep always” he went on to
disclose that if everything works as planned, come November 2019, Rev Leonard
Djam currently a Deacon shall be ordained priest still in Njinikom bringing the
number of mill hill priest from Njinikom to four.
