A sizeable number of friends,
colleagues, schoolmates, classmates and family Saturday June 15 assembled at the
head quarters of the Fomunyoh Foundation mile 6 Mankon Bamenda to celebrate the
50th birthday and 25th anniversary of journalism practice of Mokun Njouny Nelson.
The twin event according to the celebrant was a moment of thanksgiving to God
and communion with those who have accompanied him in his life's journey this
far.
Family and colleagues have used the event to
publicly shower praises on the man they preferred to call a father. "He took
the place of our father when he died at just 48. In fact our father did not live
as long as Njouny Nelson has lived." A family member said

Corroborating, Sandra a staff at Foundation
radio where Mokun Njouny Nelson is manager said "let me use this
opportunity to thank you sir... You have always treated us more than just a Manager.
You have always been like a father to us."
Joining in the anniversary were ex-students
of Presbyterian Secondary School Mankon who identified with the double
jubilarian as a true PEMEXAN, a hard working man, and a dedicated journalist.
They celebrated his new age with songs and a unique canvass drawing of his portrait
highlighting his shining grey hair which many have refused to link to his age
considering the boy-like size of Mokun Njouny though golden in age already.
Jeff Ngawe on behalf of the Cameroon Association
of English Speaking Journalists CAMASEJ and Cameroon Community Media Network
CCMN describe the grey hair they both share as a symbol of wisdom. This he
noted can be reflected in the outstanding quality of work being done by Mokun
Njouny Nelson. He encouraged younger journalist to emulate his example by going
closer to the silver jubilee professional to better their practice.
The esthetic beauty of the event ground, the
presence of senior and active states men and women, live musical performance
from artists like Wara Festus, King fils, Zita Light, comedy by grand Pa, plenty
to eat and drink including palmwine "fi-chuck" from Batibo Momo
Division North west region the place of Mokun Njouny's birth made the feast a
true combination of a silver and golden jubilee party.
The immediate past secretary general to the
Bamenda city council Bobe Jude Waindim will turn the feast into a journalistic
newsroom as he proposed a toast. With clarity, simplicity and liquistically
uplifted diction, Jude Waindim presented Mokun Njouny as a journalists of no
common compare. He distant his journalistic style and character from many and
prayed the almighty continue to protect him and shower him with more years and
wisdom.
Born 50years ago, Mokun Njouny Nelson has a
university training background in Law but opted to practice journalism. For the
past 25years, he has worked with several English language Newspapers including
the celebrated Herald Newspaper. He was co founder of The Socialist Chronicles
and today manager of one of Bamenda's leading radio stations Foundation radio.
He is a writer and columnist with some newspapers like Cameroon's lone English
language daily The Guardian Post. In 2016 he wrote and published a must read book
The Cameroon of Tomorrow! Dr Christopher Fomunyoh The Man in his words. At his
twin silver and golden jubilee event, he was accompanied by his wife and two
sons who he thanked for all the support. He has used his twin event to recommit
himself to the journalism he chosed to practice with the principle of telling
it as it is.
