The tournament's determining
phase started Tuesday August 27 as Pool A returned to action with the second
round of matches.
Due to legal issues involving
Riziere du Noun and Volcan du Noun over who represents the West Region,
Ngoundere FC had to begin their campaign all over despite a briliant 4-1
tournament opener aganist replaced Riziere FC.
This did not however dampen the
spirit of the Adamawa regional representatives as they overpowered hopeful AS
Dibamba of the Littoral Region 1-0. The lone goal by Steve Nana 4" which
became the fastest goal of the tournament has kept Ngoundere FC's hope of
qualifying for League Two alive.
The 2-0 victory of reinstated
Volcan du Noun against Olympic Biwong Bane has not only made the next day of
play more engaging as three teams in the pool now total 3pts each but has also
signaled relegation for the South regional representative with no point.
The unofficial classification
puts Volcan du Noun top of the Pool with 3pts +2 with two more matches to play,
Ngoundere FC with 3pts +1 and two matches to play, AS Dibamba with 3pts +1 and
Olympic Biwong Bane with no point -4goals with just a match to go.
In Pools B and C, the picture
seems more clearer though the last day of play still remains decisive.
PWD Kumba is out of the contest
in Pool B. They were beaten in their tournament opener by Stade de Bertoua with
an unsual football score of 6-4. The game that featured ten goals seem to have
set up a duel against Kohi Club of Maroua and Stade de Bertoua. Kohi Club
currently has one point obtained from their first game against Stade de
Bertoua. Though the duel will not be on the pitch since Stade de Bertoua have
played all two matches ending with 4pts +2, eliminated PWD Kumba will still
have a role to play in who becomes champions of the Pool. Should they beat or
draw with Kohi Club, then Stade de Bertoua qualifies, but should Kohi Club beat
PWD Kumba with a goal margin of at least three, then the Bertoua boys are out.
The captain for PWD Kumba is
still however upbeat that they can beat Kohi Club so as to preserve some honour
for the South West Region.
According to the unofficial
classification Stade de Bertoua is first with 4pts +2, Kohi Club of Maroua 1pt
and PWD Kumba no point -2. The champions of the pool will be known on Saturday.
Pool C has a more asured leader:
Foncha Street FC of Bamenda with several options on the table. With a 2-1 win
against Mercure du Mbam, Etoile Filante of Garoua is counting on Mecure to beat
Foncha Street FC with at least a 2-0 margin. Mecure on their part will need to
beat the NW flag bearers not fewer than 3-0 if they must qualify. Simply put
should Foncha Street FC win, draw or be beaten by 1-0, they will still be Pool
C winners. Saturday will therefore remain very decisive in the Pool. The
unofficial classification puts Foncha Street FC top of the Pool with 3pts, +2,
Etoile Filante of Garoua ranks second with 3pts -1 and Mercure du Mbam tails
the table with no point -1.
By the end of Sunday September 1,
all the champions from the various groups will be know.
