The Rural Women Centre for Education and Development RuWCED Cameroon in a bid to help victims of post abortal complications has offered Manual Vacuum Aspirations (MVA) to some health facilities in the North West Region NWR.
The Rural Women Centre for Education and Development RuWCED Cameroon in a bid to help victims of post abortal complications has offered Manual Vacuum Aspirations (MVA) to some health facilities in the North West Region NWR.
With the
manual vacuum Aspirations, unsuccessful especially illegal abortions can be
properly finished to avoid cases of rupture and other complications which may
even lead to death. According to Barr Fonsoh who intervened during the donation event, the
Cameroonian law says an abortion can be carried out only in any of these two
cases where a woman's health is in grave danger and when the pregnancy is as a
result of rape. In these situations a medico-legal report must be used as
clearance before abortion can be carried out.
The MVAs were given to health facilities
in Ngoketunjia and Mezam divisions during a three day(13 to 15 Nov) training on
the full extent of abortion services provided by the national law and capacity
building on provision of non-judgmental post abortion care to women and girls
organised by RuWCED at the MINEPAT conference Hall.
The medics in return recommended that to
avoid abortions especially among married women, family planning centres should
be well equipped
