Situation report number 28th of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs(UNOCHA) in Cameroon publsihed recently has singled out six divisions from the two English Speaking North West and South West regions as most affected in the ongoing armed conflict in the area.
They include Donga Mantung,Bui, Boyo and Mezam divisions in the North West Region including Lebialem and Manyu divisions in the South West Region.
The report covering the period from 1 to 28 February 2021 holds that the situation remained dire with continues violence."The population remained caught up in between parties in the ongoing conflict with case of harassment reported in many communities",says the report .
Out of more than 10 000 people displaced in February in the said divisions, around 4,000 came from Nwa subdivision alone following repeated hostilities between the belligerents and targeted attacks against civilians.The displaced were
forced to flee their homes into the bushes or neighboring towns and villages.
The report also notes that the use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) remain prevalent.Atleast ten incidents of IEDs detonated or dismantled in February .
Humanitarian actors continued to operate under numerous constraints."They are however not targeted but remains at risk of becoming collateral damage or being in the right place at the wrong time",the report reads in part.
