The maiden edition of the Bamenda lll council Festival of Heritage,Arts, and Culture-FEHACU,has kicked off in earnest with a call for Nkwen,a major village in Bamenda lll council area to be reclassified from a second class fondom to a first class fondom.This was November 26, 2021 at the Nkwen Fon's palace where the three days cultural fiesta is unfolding.
A spectacular cultural carnival with pageantry and colour accompanied with royal and transitional rites led by the traditional ruler of Nkwen HRH Azefor lll officially set FEHACU 2021 in motion.
"Considering our rich cultural heritage with an increasing population in the municipality that has spurred an increase in socio economic activities,we humbly plead for the reclassification of Nkwen Fondom from a second class to a first class fondom", said mayor Fonguh Cletus,at the opening ceremony of the cultural event.
It should be noted that there are five first class fondoms in the North West region notably Kom,Nso,Mankon,Bali Nyonga, and Bafut.
According to the Cameroon Chieftaincy law contained in decree no 77/245 of July 15, 1977 a first class chiefdom is that whose area of jurisdiction covers at least two second class chiefdoms and the territorial boundaries in principle do not exceed those of a division.
FEHACU 2021 is holding on the theme ,"our culture bond of togetherness reconnecting to our roots reviving cultural values and enhancing peaceful coexistence for socio economic empowerment of Bamenda lll"
For three days ,the cultural and traditional riches of Nkwen will be on display.
"We have over 100 exhibitors for this maiden edition,we pray you visit the stands and witness first hand the rich cultural heritage,arts and culture of our people",added Mayor Fonguh, Chief organizer of the cultural fiesta.
"You will equally be thrilled with various discoveries such as traditional dances,tales, traditional dishes,bamboo work,needle work,miss FEHACU....",the mayor went on.
Considering that language remains the first identity of all Peoples ,the mayor announced the creation of the Nkwen language committee and invited parents to send their children to the palace during holidays to learn the Nkwen language.
FEHACU 2021 is expected to end on Sunday November 28.The opening ceremony on November 26 was attended amongst others by the governor of the North West region, Adolf Lele L'Afrique and the President of the regional executive council Fru Angwafor.
