After winning all three group matches against Egypt, Sudan and Guinea Bissau, Nigeria was generally seen as favourite against a Tunisia side affected by several cases of COVID-19.
Caretaker trainer of the Super Eagles who led the team to Cameoon has indicated his decision to go back to his previous functions after being questioned of his future.
"What happens next is that I’m the interim coach and Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)....I will go back to my position and allow the NFF make a decision on the way forward,” Augustine Eguavoen said.
Augustine Eguavoen was given the top job in interim capacity after Gernot Rohr was fired in December ahead of the competition. . Though the NFF announced Jose Peseiro as the new coach before the start of AFCON, Eguavoen was given the responsibility to lead the Super Eagles to Cameroon.
