Elite One Championship 2022: YOSA, PWD eye top spots on match day-9

By Bakah Derick

Yong Sports Academy (YOSA) and PWD social football club of Bamenda shall be heading into match day-9 this weekend with the hopes of returning to the honour roll. Both teams have dropped several points from match day-6 but have remained amongst the best in their respective pools.
YOSA to battle for the top

Though YOSA has remained unbeaten with four wins and two draws, coach Nkabyo Martin and his men have kept an enviable reputation refusing to fall into the average class in their group. With just two points separating them from pool leaders Astre of Douala with 16points, YOSA hopes to continuously make their intentions of contesting the championship tittle when they face Union of Douala; a team they have hardly had difficulties overpowering. Between YOSA and Astre is Canon with 15points.
Held to a draw by Yves Clement Arroga and his contingent of Djiko FC Bandjoun producing a second draw after that with Apejes de Mfou, YOSA heads into day-9 this weekend with a different feeling.

"We come from a cold zone and having to play back to back games under very high temperatures is a difficult task. We will be moving to Yaounde for our next games, We would've loved to leave here with all 3 points, however, I appreciate the efforts of my boys, It wasnt what we expected but we got a point. We will rest, try to recover and focus on the rest of the tournament which still has a long way." Coach Nkabyo Martin said after they draw against Djiko FC Bandjoun.

PWD turns graph upwards
In what looks like a gradual recovery after a not too good outing on match day-7 against Eding that ended 3-0 in favour of the Lekie side, PWD settled for a 2-2 with UMS of Loum despite talking a 2-0 lead into a good part of the second half. The Abakwa Boys did what was possible but could not protect the brace from Mohammed Aboubakar. The team's media unit described the day on their Facebook page as "another disappointing day at work."
With the draw,  the Abakwa are now ranked fourth with 12points;  eight away from leaders Eding but one away from second place Avion Du Nkam with 13points. PWD will be expected to return to winning ways when they face bottom side Renaissance de Ngoumou on match day-9 and this will certainly return them to the top three or two in the pool.
