The Bamenda based not-for-profit nongovernmental organisation Cameroon Gender and Environment Watch (CAMGEW) has observed this year's edition of World Earth Day with children. The observance took place at the organisation's office in Bamenda on Saturday 23 April 2022 with the participating children learning the importance of flowers to man, animal, insects and nature.
Like elsewhere in the world, CAMGEW and the children observed the day under the theme "Invest in our Planet."
According to the Director of CAMGEW Wirsiy Emmanuel Binyuy, bringing the children together for the observance was his organisation's way of investing in the future.
"Children learned about flowers and what makes flowers important like colours, flavours (Scent) and others. Children also saw the different types of flowers with their colours, scent, size, weight and shapes.
This was done in a creative way with children singing, dancing, storytelling and asking and answering questions." The organisation wrote on their Facebook page
The children could be seen drawing and colouring different flowers of their choice during the observance.
World Earth Day is observed every April 22 with the intention to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
The first edition of World Earth Day was observed on April 22, 1970.
