A veterant football tournament has kicked off in Bamenda III Subdivision. The official launch of the tournament took place on Saturday 7 May 2022 at the renovated Niboung government school field in Nkwen.
Speaking during the launching of the maiden edition of the tournament, the Mayor of the Bamenda III Council explained that the decision to organise the football competition is to promote the sporting culture in the municipality especially for those aged above 40years. Fongu Cletus Tanwe noted that this will go a long way to keep them healthy by preventing many diseases that come with aging.
He has praised the 13 registered teams for adhering to this maiden call. While wishing all the participating teams well, the Mayor has hinted that should the means be available, the competition will be annual.
The inaugural fixture ended 1-0 in favour of Above 40 veteran against Oku Veteran being pool A teams. The competition continuous on Sunday 8 May 2022 with Pool C getting into action with two fixtures: Bamenda City Veteran vs St Paul's Veteran and Futru Veteran vs Bamenda III.
The final of the tournament is previewed for Sunday 26 May 2022.
Councilors of the Bamenda III Council authorised the Mayor to organise the football tournament during the administrative and management accounts session recently.
The competition is opened only to persons aged from 35years and above
