Dr Joseph Mubang has announced free counseling and medication for young people at a newly constructed clinic at big Mankon Bamenda. The US based psychotherapist was speaking to www.hilltopvoices.com on Wednesday 1 June 2022 in Bamenda on the sidelines of activities to mark the end of the academic for the family school they run in the town.
Accoring to Dr Joseph Mubang, the facility which he described as world class is to take care of the youth who are witnesses of the ongoing armed conflict affecting the region.
"What this generation is facing because of the sociopolitical environment is what we call in psychology post traumatic stress disorder. Simply, it means what they have seen, what they have witnessed, the drama they have witnessed, observed and be part of it, if we don't therapeutically counsel them, and some can even need psychotropic medication, so if we don't help this generation, in future we could be faced with a generation that has seen the worst." He said
With lots of young people passing through streets with corpses to school as a result of the armed conflict raging the region, the mental health specialist assures all of their presence and services.
"We are here to give them free counseling in that center and for all te youths and for all the sons and daughters of the North West region if you have a problems, go to the center. You will have free counseling and free medication." Dr Joseph Mubang added
This center according to the promoter will facilitate issues of post traumatic stress disorder as a result of the ongoing armed conflict.
He has however not indicated how soon the facility will go operational but when we visited the facility. It was near completion.
The promoter has expressed the wish for all to think about the future in peace terms with his center ready to offer any form of support especially in areas related to trauma.
