A delegation of the National Executive Bureau, NEB of the Cameroon Journalists' Trade Union, CJTU has paid a visit to the Far North Region. The visit by the delegation made up of the National President Comrade Marion OBAM, Vice President incharge of International Relations Comrade BAKAH Derick and the Secretary General Comrade Hilaire HAMEKOUE, is the sixth lap of a national tour by the New leadership of the union.
Arriving in the city of Maroua via Boeing 737-700 of Camair'Co on November 10, 2022, the delegation was reinforced by comrade Jean ARENGUENA, president of the host regional chapter and National Secretary for Litigation and Legal Affairs.
The first stop was at the Regional Delegation for Communication Far North where the delegate Mr. BABADJO HAMIDOU TAIWÉ was on hand to receive NEB. Discussions focused on the state of the media in the region, their difficulties and possible solutions. A stop was then made at the Maroua I Council for an exchange with Mayor Hamadou Hamidou.
After consultation with the Regional Executive, the delegation toured some media outlets in the city of Maroua including:
- l'Oeil du SAHEL daily newspaper
- SAHEL Gotel Radio
- CRTV regional station
- Jamaare FM and
- Woïla media cooperation where the CEO Bouba Adama was waiting for the delegation with all his staff.
The exchanges with the managers of the media group and the personnel present prepared a solid ground for mutual understanding, need for social dialogue for the interests of the workers and an essential element for work.
The NEB delegation had the opportunity to share with the wider audience in French, English and Fufulde thanks to airtime offered at SAHEL Gotel and Woïla FM to talk about CJTU and her mission as well as the objectives of the national tour.
The delegation was also honored by the visit of the Head of the Communications Service at the Far North Governor's office Mrs. Liliane TEFACK.
The major highlight of the lap was a meeting with media workers. Necessary in more ways than one, the meeting made it possible to clear misunderstandings thus preparing ground for an all-out mobilization with the hope of resolutely engagaing CJTU on the front for a credible press in the Far North region.
It is with the convinction of a mission well accomplished that the NEB/CJTU delegation left Maroua on November 11, 2022 for Garoua, the seventh lap of the national tour.
For the NEB of CJTU
