At least seven new persons have been elected into leadership positions of the Northwest Chapter of the Cameroon Journalists’ Trade Union (CJTU). The elections took place on Saturday 25 March 2023 in Bamenda during the union’s elective general assembly.
The new comers into the chapter executive include Julliete Afunyui of Afrique Nouvelle Radio as Vice President in charge of gender replacing Rosaline Obah, Ndefru Melanie of Civiclens as Secretary General replacing Odette Nchanji, Ngong Song Jean Marie Of the University of Bamenda radio as Secretary in charge of training replacing Bih Sylvia, Jerry Benson secretary Freelance for observatory being a new position, Paul kema Fru as secretary solidarity Fung John Freelance as secretary for mobilization and Nfor Francis of MIDENO as Auditor replacing Choves Loh
Only three persons have maintained their offices amongst them Nji Ignatius of Eden Newspaper as President, Ruth Che Wachong of MIDENO as secretary for communications and alerts and Ambe MacMillian Freelance treasurer.
Others who were in the previous leadership but switched functions include Rosaline Obah of Cameroon Community Media Network CCMN formerly Vice President in charge of Gender issues and Vice president in charge of relations, Chovis Loh of The News newspaper who acted as auditor and now takes the function of secretary for litigation and judicial affairs replacing Nestor Njodzefe.
“Thank you for accepting to take the leadership of our union. This is a huge sacrifice. The currently team has a lot of intellectual and financial independence and that inspires hope. With such qualities, achieving the union’s principal mission of ensuring the safety and protection of journalists and related media professionals will achieved with ease.” Bakah Derick said while installing the new executive on behalf of the national executive bureau (NEB)
Ignatius Nji has promised to be a servant leader counting on all union members for the success of the two years mandate to run till 2025.
