Good Friday: Bamenda Maintains Roman Catholic Tradition with Public Way of the Cross

Catholic Christians in Bamenda have commemorated Good Friday in typical Roman Catholic Style with the public way of the cross.

At the St Paul’s Quasi Parish, Ntahkekah, the five mission stations that make up the quasi parish all converge at the main mission praying and simulating the various Stations of the Cross.
The day commenced early in the morning, with small Christian communities from each mission station gathering at designated locations. At 6:45 am, the participants embarked on the Stations of the Cross, with each station representing a pivotal moment in Jesus' final hours before his crucifixion. From St Joseph Mission Station to St Paul’s Mission Station, St Dominic Mission Station, St Charles Luwanga, St Andrew, and Banjah, each group set out on their spiritual pilgrimage.

Like in other Catholic communities across the city, at every station along the way, the faithful paused to pray and reflect on the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus Christ on Good Friday. The culmination of the public way of the cross at St Paul’s occurred in front of the main mission, where all five mission stations converged to pray the 13th and 14th stations before receiving a blessing from the priest.

Mildred Ngwe, chairperson of the liturgy commission at St Paul’s parish, emphasized the importance of decentralizing the observance to the various mission stations. By doing so, parishioners were able to engage more fully in the experience and deepen their commitment to their faith.

Through this communal act of remembrance and devotion, parishioners were able to honor the solemnity of the day and draw closer to the heart of their faith.
