Mile II Masjid and Da’awah Center Nkwen Bamenda Inaugurated

The long-awaited inauguration ceremony of the Mile II Masjid and Da’awah Center took place on Friday, March 1, 2023, marking a significant milestone for the Muslim community in the area.

The event, held in the newly constructed Mosque, was a moment of joy and celebration as members gathered to commemorate the successful completion of the project.

Project Chairman Alhadji Yaya Bekwa expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed to making the Masjid a reality, emphasizing the community's resilience and dedication in the face of challenges. "In these challenging times, you still donate through all means in cash, kind, and human resources to see that this project is being realized," he remarked.

The inauguration provided an opportunity for the Muslim community to come together and celebrate their unity, success, and hope for a brighter future. Bekwa highlighted the power of hope as a driving force for positive change, urging the community to continue working together towards meaningful advancements in all aspects of their lives.

The ceremony featured speeches from visiting Muslim communities from Bamenda and other towns like Douala and Bafoussam. Key moments included the cutting of the symbolic inauguration ribbon, the installation of the new Imam chosen by the community, and the holding of the first Friday prayers in the new Mosque.

The journey towards the construction of the Mile II Masjid and Da’awah Center began when the Mile II Community faced eviction from their temporary prayer site in August 2020. This prompted a reflection on finding a permanent solution, leading to the conception of the project. The community's outreach to Imams, Muslim scholars, and leaders for support further fueled their determination to see the project through.

As the Mile II Masjid and Da’awah Center now stands as a beacon of unity and faith, it serves as a testament to the community's commitment to their religious beliefs and shared vision for a better future.

The Mile II Masjid and Da’awah Center Nkwen is the first mosque in Bamenda to be constructed with resources generated fully by the community.
