The Cameroon Journalists' Trade Union (CJTU) Northwest Chapter has announced the commencement of the 2024 Press Awards, dedicated to celebrating the outstanding work of journalists in the North West Region.
This year's awards carry special significance as they also pay homage to six departed colleagues: Peterkins Manyong, Eric Motumo, Michel Ndi, Anye Nde Soh, Rebecca Njeme, and Fawa Agatha.
In an uncommon gesture, CJTU has established six categories named after these journalists, each reflecting their unique contributions to the field of journalism in the region. The categories and their corresponding domains are as follows:
1. CJTU/Peterkins Manyong Memorial Award: Political Reporting
2. CJTU/Anye Ndeh Soh Memorial Award: Sports Reporting
3. CJTU/Michel Ndi Memorial Award: Human Interest Reporting
4. CJTU/Eric Motumo Memorial Award: Critical Writing
5. CJTU/Rebecca Njeme Memorial Award: Gender Reporting
6. CJTU/Fawa Agatha Memorial Award: Women's Issues Reporting
According to a release published recently by the chapter president, Nji Ignatius, entries for the awards are now open, with a deadline set for April 15, 2024. Eligible submissions must encompass works published or broadcasted between April 2022 and April 2024. Journalists are invited to submit entries in various formats, including video, audio, PDF, or web links, to the designated email address: cjtu2024pressaward@gmail.com.
The chapter President has maintained that CJTU aims to recognize excellence and dedication within the journalistic community while also commemorating the legacy of those who have left an indelible mark on the profession. By honoring the memory of Peterkins Manyong, Eric Motumo, Michel Ndi, Anye Nde Soh, Rebecca Njeme, and Fawa Agatha, the CJTU seeks to ensure that their contributions continue to inspire and uplift journalists in the North West Region and beyond.
As the journalism fraternity prepares to celebrate World Press Freedom Day 2024, these awards serve as a major reminder of the sacrifices made by journalists in pursuit of truth, justice, and accountability. CJTU NW encourages all eligible journalists to participate in this prestigious event and looks forward to recognizing and celebrating their exceptional contributions to the field.
