National Police Chief Issues Directive to Combat Corruption, Harassment on Public Roads Raised by CONAC

In a bid to address mounting complaints of police harassment and corruption, the General Delegate for National Security has issued a directive to all operational commandants and regional delegates for National Security. The radio message, dated March 4, 2024, underscores the urgency of tackling these issues raised by citizens and the National Anti-Corruption Commission (CONAC).
The message, signed by Matin MBARGA NGUELE, emphasizes two key directives aimed at restoring public trust and integrity within law enforcement: Strict Enforcement of Identity Document Protocol and Combatting Corruption and Harassment.

The directive mandates that law enforcement officers to refrain from confiscating or demanding expired identity documents from citizens during routine checks. This measure aims to prevent unnecessary inconvenience and abuse of power against individuals.

The message urges all personnel to take decisive action to combat corruption and various forms of harassment perpetrated by law enforcement officials on public roads. It calls for a concerted effort to uphold professionalism, integrity, and respect for citizens' rights.
The directive, issued in response to a surge in complaints from citizens and the intervention of CONAC shows some willingness by the National Security apparatus to address systemic issues and enhance accountability within its ranks.

In light of this directive, law enforcement agencies are expected to implement stringent measures to root out corrupt practices and ensure that citizens are treated with dignity and fairness during interactions with the police.
The radio message concludes with a call for accountability, urging recipients to report on their efforts to implement the directives outlined and signaling a firm commitment to combating corruption and harassment within the ranks of the National Security.
