SDF at 34: Party Leadership in Bamenda III Confident Ahead of Upcoming Elections

As the Social Democratic Front (SDF) commemorated its 34th anniversary in Bamenda III, the leadership of the local council declared their preparedness to retaining their leadership in the upcoming elections. The declaration was made by Lucas Ngu Afong, District Chairperson of the SDF for the Bamenda III electoral district corroborated by Koti Joseph, the Deputy Mayor of Bamenda III.

In an  interview with The Hilltop Mail Newspaper on the sidelines of the celebration, both leaders expressed their confidence in the party's ability to continue leading the Bamenda III Council, the only council managed by the SDF in the North West Region out of 34 councils.

Lucas Ngu Afong emphasized the achievements of the Bamenda III Council under the SDF's management, citing it as a model for effective governance and development. 

"The Bamenda III Council has become a reference in the region in terms of development projects and management," Ngu Afong stated. "Our success here demonstrates that if given the opportunity, the SDF can manage not just this council but the entire city, region, or even the country."

He acknowledged the challenges ahead but expressed confidence in the party's readiness. "We have never fought easy battles, and this upcoming election will be no different. We are prepared for any challenge that comes our way," Ngu Afong added, highlighting the party’s resilience and determination.

Koti Joseph, the Deputy Mayor, highlighted the council’s engagement its development plan, which he described as a product of inclusive dialogue and community participation.

 "Our development plan is evidence of our dedication to inclusive governance. Those who benefit from our projects are involved in the process, ensuring that everyone has a stake in the development of Bamenda III," Joseph said.

He pointed to the council’s achievements in road infrastructure, despite limited resources due to the ongoing armed conflict in the region.

 "Even with the financial constraints imposed by the conflict, we ensure that the available resources are utilized effectively and benefit everyone," Joseph noted. "The Bamenda III Council is iconic for its proper management, a reflection of the SDF’s inherent social concepts and commitment to the common good."

Since its creation by Presidential Decree No. 2007/117 on April 24, 2007, the Bamenda III Council has been under the stewardship of the SDF. The council’s management has been widely recognized for its adherence to development plans and efficient resource utilization, making it a beacon of good governance in the region.

According  to the Mayor Fongu Cletus Tanwe speaking via a messaging application, as the SDF celebrates its foundation anniversary, its leadership in Bamenda III remains focused on maintaining their position in the council. He notes that their confidence is rooted in their track record of effective management and community involvement, principles that have guided the party since its launch on May 26, 1990, in Bamenda.

Looking ahead, the SDF leadership in Bamenda III is prepared to face the electoral challenges with the same resilience and determination that has characterized their tenure.

 "We have built a formidable foundation based on transparency, accountability, and social equity," Ngu Afong concluded. "Our commitment to these principles will see us through the elections and beyond, ensuring continued progress and development for Bamenda III."

The upcoming elections will be a critical test for the SDF in Bamenda III, but with a proven track record and a clear vision for the future, the party’s leadership is confident in their ability to maintain their stewardship and continue their work towards a better future for their community.
