Led by the chapter president, Comrade Nji Ignatius, alongside about 10 members of the Union, including the National Vice President in charge of international relations, Bakah Derick and National Adviser Choves Loh who happen to be from the chapter, the initiative aimed to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of plastic pollution on the environment.

Nji Ignatius, NW Chapter president, emphasized the urgency of addressing plastic waste disposal, stating, "Our environment is suffering from the consequences of irresponsible plastic disposal. As journalists, it is our duty to not only report on issues but also to take action and lead by example in preserving our planet."

The CJTU team diligently collected bags of plastic waste, symbolizing their commitment to environmental stewardship and their dedication to educating the public on proper waste management practices.

This initiative aligns with this year's World Press Freedom Day theme, "A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the Face of Environmental Crisis," highlighting the crucial role journalists play in advocating for environmental sustainability.
The National Vice President Bakah Derick expressed appreciation for the proactive efforts of the NW Chapter and commended the resilience of comrades in the region despite the ongoing armed conflict.

"The national office deeply appreciates the proactive initiatives undertaken by chapters like the NW Chapter. Your dedication to environmental conservation is commendable, and it reflects the spirit of unity and resilience that defines our union. We are grateful for your unwavering commitment, especially in the face of adversity." He stated

CJTU's plastic waste collection exercise serves as an indication to the union's commitment not only to press freedom but also to environmental responsibility.
