The Mayor of the Bamenda III Council, Fongu Cletus Tanwe has arrived in Banyo this Wednesday 31 July 2024 to warm welcome ahead of the signing of a Development Protocol Agreement between the Bamenda III and Banyo councils.
Arriving in the second half of the afternoon, Mayor Fongu and his team were greeted by showers of rain, considered a blessing in many cultures. The delegation received a warm welcome from their hosts, including Mayor El Hadj Garba Soule of the Banyo Council, along with a large crowd at the municipality's entrance.
The cultural richness of the region was on full display as the delegation was welcomed with traditional performances. The Algeita dance, a staple of local festivities reserved for high profile authorities, and the Njang dance from the North West community in Banyo, highlighted the unity and shared heritage between the two regions.
Despite the nearly 24-hour journey, which was lengthened by challenging road conditions and several necessary stops, the Bamenda III delegation arrived in high spirits. They were taken across Banyo city, where they will stay overnight in preparation for the signing ceremony.
The Development Protocol Agreement, set to be signed on August 1, 2023, is expected to pave the way for joint projects and mutual support in various sectors, including infrastructure, culture, and community development.
Mayor Fongu has expressed gratitude for the warm reception admitting the potential of the agreement to benefit both communities.
