The 2024 edition of the annual Summer Football Jamboree, sponsored by Mines Minister Prof. Fuh Calistus Gentry officially launched in Misaje on Sunday, July 14, 2024. The kickoff, led by Divisional Officer Fru Tuma Martin, marked the beginning of the highly anticipated Misaje Unity Football Tournament. The event took place at the Government High School field, drawing top dignitaries and elected officials.
According to kimNews, a local Misaje news outlet, this annual summer tournament costing the Minister 2.5M FCFA aims to keep youths engaged during the holidays, promote peace among the 12 villages, and, as emphasized by the Divisional Officer, provide an opportunity for youths to showcase their football talents. The goal is to prepare them for future endeavors, such as third-division matches.
The Divisional Officer praised Minister Prof. Fuh Calistus Gentry as an illustrious and philanthropic son of Misaje, known for his contributions to the community, including support for orphans and widows.
In the opening matches, AL-Hilal FC and Moscow FC Kigenshi played to a goalless draw in a tense encounter. Similarly, the match between Mount Zion FC and The Brothers FC of Nkanchi also ended without any goals. The next round of fixtures is scheduled for Sunday, July 21, 2024, with Moscow FC Kigenshi facing The Brothers FC of Nkanchi and AL-Hilal FC meeting Mount Zion FC.
The same Summer Football Jamboree will also be held in Ako Subdivision, sponsored by Minister Prof. Fuh Calistus Gentry with an equal donation of FCFA 2.5 million. Support from local elites in the Ako Misaje Special Constituency has been significant, with contributions both financial and material. Ndamo Jacob from the USA has donated FCFA 500,000, while Achu Kingsley (Regional Councilor) and Kanjo Shadrack (Court Registrar) have provided jerseys for local teams. The five brothers of Dumbu, along with Maah Isaac (KECUDA President) and Maah Joseph (SP MINMITD), are supporting the tournament with canopies, water, and additional donations of FCFA 50,000 each.
