The Bamenda III Council delegation, in the afternoon of Friday 2 Augusg 2024, continued their visit to Banyo with an engagement with the English-speaking community. This visit followed an earlier inspection of development projects by the Banyo Council. The delegation began their visit at NdzenNso, a newly allocated 17-hectare area provided to the Nso Community by the Lamido of Banyo Elh. Mohaman Gabdo Yaya.
During the visit, Mayor Fongu Cletus Tanwe was deeply impressed by the ongoing construction of the Nso Community Hall, known as Ngai Nso. Moved by the community's dedication, Mayor Fongu made a generous donation of a ton of cement to support the construction efforts. He was then given a comprehensive tour of the construction site and the surrounding land. In a gesture of deep respect and camaraderie, the leaders of the Nso Community offered Mayor Fongu a piece of land, acknowledging him as one of their own and inviting him to reside among them in Banyo.
After this interaction, the delegation proceeded to the Banyo Council hall for a meeting with the broader English-speaking community, joined by Mayor El Hadj Garba Soule. Representatives from the Nso and Wimbum communities took the floor, expressing their gratitude for the peaceful and supportive environment in Banyo. They praised the efforts of the Banyo Mayor and reiterated their commitment to contributing to the town's development.
Mayor Fongu and Mayor Soule addressed the gathering, reinstating the importance of their recently signed Memorandum of Understanding and calling for the community's support in realizing their shared vision for development. They explained the importance of maintaining peace and unity, particularly in the North West Region.
The meeting concluded with a collective prayer for peace, with Mayor Soule encouraging the community to embrace the Islamic practice of Zakat, which promotes sharing and mutual support.
This visit highlighted the strong and harmonious relationship between the Bamenda III delegation and the English-speaking community in Banyo, showcasing a unified commitment to regional development and peaceful coexistence.
