The 2024 Bamenda III Council Inclusive Royal Tournament like previous editions not only showcased incredible football talent but also the deep-rooted community engagement that has become the foundation of this annual event. With teams representing various quarters of the Bamenda III Subdivision, the tournament served as a powerful symbol of unity, bringing together neighbourhoods and villages in support of their local teams.
Though not all quarters fielded teams, the tournament still boasted impressive representation from across the municipality. Teams such as Bayelle FC, Olympic FC Teken, Young City FC Teken, Sporting FC of Bayelle-Manda, Alahlieh FC, Waterfall FC of Menteh, Ntefinkih FC, Ngwe Ngwe FC of Mile 5, Mbefi FC, Nibung FC, Pro Squad FC Nibung, and Mbelewa all showcased the spirit and pride of their respective quarters. The diverse roster of teams ensured that most areas of Bamenda III were represented on the field, creating a platform for healthy competition and camaraderie.
While Ndzah Village, one of the two villages that make up Bamenda III along with Nkwen, did not field a team, their presence was felt throughout the tournament. The massive turnout on match days, with fans cheering from the sidelines, was proof to the deep community engagement promoted by the event. The sight of quarter heads, notables, and local leaders sitting alongside fans at the Nibung Government School Field was a clear sign that the tournament had transcended football; it had become a community affair.
The presence of fan clubs added to the electric atmosphere. Nibung FC’s traditional fan club and Olympic FC Teken’s supporters demonstrated great loyalty, with songs, chants, and performances that kept spirits high, even during tense moments on the field. The fans' passion fueled the players’ determination and ensured that every match felt like a celebration of local pride.
The inclusive nature of the tournament extended beyond the teams and fans. Quarter heads and community notables actively participated, supporting their neighbourhoods and encouraging the young athletes. Their involvement signaled a strong commitment to pushing for community cohesion and nurturing the next generation of leaders in Bamenda III.
“The turnout and support have been incredible,” said Mayor Fongu Cletus Tanwe. “This tournament is about more than just football; it’s about bringing the community together, strengthening bonds between quarters, and promoting unity across Bamenda III.”
Divisional Officer Ayuni Austin Sakah, who described the collective leadership between himself, the Mayor, and Fon Azehfor III as the “Development Trinity,” praised the strong community involvement.
In the end, the 2024 Bamenda III Council Inclusive Royal Tournament was a clear reflection of the vibrant community spirit that defines the subdivision. From the teams on the field to the fans in the stands, the event showcased the power of sport to bring people together and build a stronger, more united Bamenda III.
