KFC of Dumbu has emerged victorious in the 2024 Misaje Unity Cup final, defeating KASSOC of Kamine with a solid 2-0 win. The final, held at the Government Bilingual High School (G.B.H.S) field in Misaje, drew a large crowd and was presided over by the Divisional Officer for Misaje.
The match was a showcase of skill and talent, with KFC of Dumbu outmatching their opponents with a dominant first-half performance. Both goals were netted by Daouda, a former player of Bafmen FC, who displayed exceptional talent on the field. Despite multiple attempts by KASSOC to equalize, KFC's defense, backed by an outstanding performance from their goalkeeper, held firm. KASSOC's chances further dwindled when they missed two crucial penalty shots, sealing their fate in the competition.
For their victory, KFC of Dumbu was awarded the coveted trophy, gold medals, and a cash prize of one million francs CFA. The runner-up, KASSOC of Kamine, received silver medals and a cash prize of 350,000 francs CFA. The third and fourth place teams were also recognized, receiving 200,000 francs CFA and 100,000 francs CFA, respectively. In total, 2.5 million francs CFA was spent by the donor on the 2024 Misaje Unity Cup, with many collective and individual prizes distributed to participants from the pool stages up to the sub-divisional level.
The event gave the youth and people of Misaje Subdivision an opportunity to celebrate the enduring commitment of His Excellency Professor Fuh Callistus Gentry, the interim Minister for Mines, Industry, and Technological Development, who donated the Unity Cup.
Speaking during the event, the Divisional Officer for Misaje praised Professor Fuh Callistus for his decision of empowering the youth and vulnerable populations in the Subdivision. This tournament, he noted, serves as a prelude to the upcoming scholarships and economic empowerment programs that the Professor has planned for the youth of Donga Mantung Division.
As the final whistle blew and the KFC boys lifted the trophy, the spirit of unity and sportsmanship that the tournament was meant to foster was evident on the faces of all who attended. The 2024 Misaje Unity Cup will be remembered not just for the football but for the sense of community it brought to the people of Misaje.
