Former Tottenham Hotspur and Cameroon international, Timothee Atouba, has been appointed Coordinator of National Teams for Cameroon. On October 1, 2024, the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) and the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education jointly announced a newly harmonized technical staff for the Indomitable Lions including the 42 years old retired left back.
This role follows his experience working with the national team during the 2021 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which Cameroon hosted. Known for his remarkable performances as a player in European clubs like Las Palmas, Hamburger, AFC Ajax and Tottenham, the Douala boy brings a wealth of experience to his new administrative role.
Atouba’s role as Coordinator will focus on improving cohesion across the various national football squads and ensuring that the technical staff work seamlessly with players to enhance performance. His experience during the CHAN tournament, where he played a pivotal role in supporting the team's logistics and management, has prepared him well for this expanded responsibility.
FECAFOOT's restructuring, including Atouba's appointment, signals a push toward professionalism and unity, aligning both technical and operational functions to drive the success of Cameroonian football on the global stage.
The new head coach, Marc Brys, is set to lead the squad alongside seasoned professionals such as François Omam Biyik and Ashu Cyprian Besong as supervisory analysts, and former players like Idriss Carlos Kameni as goalkeeper coach.
This new setup brings together diverse experiences, including former players who have both local and international coaching experience. François Omam Biyik, who returns after several stints with the team, brings a strong bond with the players. His colleague, Ashu Besong, has international coaching experience, including roles in South Sudan and Djibouti. Additionally, the inclusion of Cameroonian football legend like Alioum Boukar in technical roles is expected to bolster the team's morale and unity.
This restructuring follows a period of turbulence for the Indomitable Lions, with hopes that the revised technical staff will enhance team cohesion and performance ahead of upcoming Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers.
