The Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Cavayé Yéguié Djibril has extended warm congratulations to Hon. Agho Oliver for his recent election to the executive committee of the Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA).
Speaking during the opening of the November parliamentary session in Yaoundé on Tuesday, 12 November 2024, Hon. Cavayé described the appointment as a major achievement not only for Hon. Agho but for the nation as a whole, highlighting it as a win for Cameroon’s influence on the global legislative stage.
The Speaker commended Hon. Agho Oliver before a full house with members of Government for his leadership and dedication to advancing Cameroon’s interests abroad. According to him, the election is not just a personal achievement but a national accomplishment that places Cameroon at the forefront of global legislative action.
Hon. Agho was elected to the PGA executive committee on 30 October 2024, in a closely contested vote held at the Pakistani Institute for Parliamentary Services, joining parliamentarians from Egypt, Guyana, Pakistan, Uganda, Jamaica, Seychelles, and Ukraine. In his new capacity, Hon. Agho will engage with influential lawmakers worldwide, addressing global challenges such as international criminal justice and advocating for the abolition of the death penalty.
While Hon. Agho’s election brings global prestige, his actions closer to home have also captured the admiration of his colleagues and constituents alike. In Bambui, within his Tubah-Bafut constituency, he recently extended support to over 100 children in need, distributing school fees, books, and other essential study materials.
Hon Agho explained that his decision to make this donation was not only a commitment to his constituents but a symbolic act of gratitude for the community’s support.
“Through your trust, I have this platform to represent and advocate for you in Parliament and beyond. These gifts are my way of giving back, of ensuring that each child here today can continue their education with pride and hope for a brighter future.” he said to the families gathered.
"These children are our future, and Hon. Agho’s actions reflect a dedication to uplifting his community in a way that few others have,” the Divisional Officer for Tubah Narcisse Metugue said, adding that local schools often struggle with inadequate infrastructure and limited resources.
The Speaker’s recognition of Hon. Agho’s achievements symbolises a national endorsement of his dual commitment to international legislative engagement and grassroots community support. As Hon. Agho takes up his new role within the PGA, he is poised to strengthen Cameroon’s presence in the global conversation on peace and justice, all while staying grounded in the values of service and compassion for his constituents back home.
For the people of Tubah-Bafut, Hon. Agho’s accomplishments are a source of pride and inspiration, reflecting a leader who is both a global advocate and a local benefactor.
