It was a firm yet visibly satisfied President of the Management Board of National Polytechnic University Institute (NPUI) Bamenda, Yong Jacques, as he addressed over 1,100 freshmen in the Amphi 1000 of the University Institute on Friday, 6 December 2024. Speaking during the matriculation ceremony for the 2024/2025 academicyear, Yong Jacques encouraged the new students to seize the opportunities offered to them by the institution, highlighting that their success ultimately depends on their commitment and determination.
“Your choice of NPUI is a step in the right direction, but what you make of this opportunity matters even more,” Yong said.
He assured the students that the management remains committed to providing a conducive learning environment to support their academic and professional growth. Yong reaffirmed the institution’s mission of shaping its students into job creators, not seekers, urging them to embrace innovation and strive for excellence in their studies.
The ceremony, conducted in a strictly administrative format, saw the students take their oath before school officials, pledging to uphold exemplary conduct both on and off campus.
Addressing the students, the Vice-Chancellor of NPUI, Dr Christopher Akob, emphasised the importance of commitment to academic pursuits, which he identified as a hallmark of an NPUI student. He praised the teaching and non-teaching staff for their dedication, which has positioned the institution as a leader in academic excellence.
“When I assumed office as Vice-Chancellor, I insisted on recruiting competent staff because excellence begins with quality educators. At NPUI, we do not compromise on this principle; we ensure our staff meet state-prescribed qualifications,” Dr Akob stated.
He attributed the institution’s 95% success rate in the 2024 HND examinations to the calibre of its faculty and the dedication of its students. He further emphasised that NPUI’s focus on both quality and quantity in education equips its students to meet the demands of an ever-evolving world.
Other speakers at the event, including both teaching and administrative staff, reiterated NPUI’s vision of producing well-rounded graduates ready to tackle real-world challenges. They stressed the importance of digital literacy, the avoidance of procrastination, and cultivating a culture of curiosity and resilience. Regular attendance and active participation in classes were also highlighted as foundational to academic and professional success.
