CAASDEV distinguished for promoting, enhancing renewable energy in Cameroon

With less than ten years of existence, Community Action for Advancing Sustainable Development (CAASDEV) has become a symbol of hope for environmental protection and conservation in Cameroon. On Sunday, 2nd February 2025, the organisation was honoured with a prestigious award from the Cameroon Climate Journalism Network (CCJN) in recognition of its exceptional efforts in climate action and sustainable development. The award was presented during a ceremony in Bamenda, as part of activities to commemorate World Wetlands Day 2025. CAASDEV’s Executive Director, Ndze Noel Lifogha, and Accountant, Njolah Brice, were present to receive the accolade, which acknowledges their tireless commitment to renewable energy, climate resilience, and community empowerment.

The President of the Cameroon Climate Journalism Network, Tamukong Roland described CAASDEV’s work as “remarkable,” emphasising that the award was truly deserved and hard-earned. Over the years, the organisation has established itself as a leading force in climate action, implementing innovative projects that promote sustainability while helping crisis-affected communities rebuild with greener solutions.

Expressing gratitude after receiving the award, Ndze Noel Lifogha noted that it was particularly significant because it marked CAASDEV’s first major local recognition, despite the organisation’s history of winning several international awards.

“This is a sign that our work is making an impact not only on the global stage but also within our own communities,” he said.

At the heart of CAASDEV’s success is its Climate Action Programme, a wide-reaching initiative designed to combat climate change, advocate for sustainable solutions, and empower communities. The organisation has spearheaded projects focused on renewable energy, environmental conservation, and disaster resilience, working to reduce dependence on fossil fuels by implementing solar and wind energy solutions.

Through community engagement and awareness, CAASDEV encourages individuals and local groups to take an active role in climate action. It also prioritises climate resilience, helping vulnerable communities adapt to changing environmental conditions through disaster preparedness and capacity-building initiatives. The organisation further strengthens its impact through advocacy and policy influence, pushing for strong climate policies and meaningful environmental reforms in collaboration with key stakeholders.
Founded in 2017, CAASDEV is a youth-led, non-governmental, apolitical, and non-denominational organisation dedicated to fostering inclusive growth, poverty reduction, and sustainable development in Cameroon. Originally registered as a Common Initiative Group (CIG) in 2017, it later transitioned into an association in 2021 under Cameroonian law. With the vision of empowered and engaged communities, CAASDEV promotes youth participation in peacebuilding, combats violent extremism, and provides green skills training to create sustainable job opportunities. Its work also includes advocating for democracy and offering vocational training to address unemployment challenges.

With growing recognition at both the local and international levels, the organisation is poised to play an even greater role in shaping Cameroon’s environmental future. For a group that started less than a decade ago, CAASDEV’s journey stands is evidence of the innovative and the relentless efforts  by its leadership in pursuit of a greener planet.
