The Social Democratic Front (SDF) convened its Strategic Regional Convention in Bamenda, gathering representatives from across the North West Region, including Divisional Coordinators, National Executive Committee (NEC) members, and National Advisory Council (NAC) members.
The convention, presided over by SDF Regional Chairperson and Mayor of Bamenda III, Fongu Cletus Tanwe, focused on assessing the party’s organisational strength and planning for the upcoming elections.
“This meeting is crucial for evaluating the health of the party in the region and preparing for the electoral challenges ahead,” Tanwe stated.
A major highlight of the convention was the discussion on the party’s upcoming extraordinary national convention in March, where a candidate will be selected to represent the SDF in the 2025 presidential election. Tanwe, while acknowledging the difficulties faced in the region, expressed dissatisfaction with the absence of key party members and urged a collective effort for the party’s resurgence.
Senator Muchigle Vanegansen, SDF National Vice President, highlighted the challenging circumstances in which the party operates in the North West. He stressed the need for unity and a collective movement that reflects the values of the SDF’s founding fathers.
“Now more than ever, we must work together to strengthen the party and prepare for the challenges ahead,” he urged.
As discussions turned to potential presidential candidates from the region, no one came forward to announce their candidature, despite an open invitation from the Regional Chairperson. However, Hilltopvoices observed the distribution of calendars featuring the image of SDF National Chairperson Joshua Osih, an act widely perceived as an unofficial campaign launch.
The convention concluded with a strong call for renewed engagement and mobilisation as the party prepares for both its national convention and the upcoming elections.
