With the 2025 elections fast approaching, voter registration and card collection remain a major challenges in Bamenda III Subdivision. During the recent council session on 28 March 2025, the Divisional Officer Ayuni Austin Sakah raised concerns over the alarming number of uncollected voter cards in the municipality.
“At present, there are over 10,000 uncollected voter cards at my office,” the DO disclosed.
“This is unacceptable. The makeshift office at the Bamenda III Subdivisional Office is one of the most accessible places in the municipality, yet people are reluctant to collect their cards. I urge all councillors to take this message to their communities... let registered voters come and collect their cards.” he noted
The DO also called on councillors to encourage voter registration before the electorate is convened.
“You were elected into office by the population. If that population does not register to vote, they will not be able to participate in the upcoming elections. We must mobilise people to register and ensure they collect their cards.” he stated
Mayor Fongu Cletus Tanwe reinforced this call to action, stressing that democratic participation is crucial for community development.
“Voter registration and card collection are civic responsibilities. If we want our voices heard, we must ensure that our people are registered and ready to vote.” he told Hilltopvoices
Councillors Azinue Ngufor and Forche Robert supported this initiative. They committed to raising awareness in their respective communities to improve voter turnout.
Our sources in that the council is taking measures to work with electoral officials to facilitate voter registration and ensure that residents claim their voter cards. With the elections drawing near, Bamenda III Council is determined to enhance civic engagement and uphold democratic principles within the municipality.
