Mayor, Deputies and Councilors After the session
During the session, the Divisional Officer (DO) for Bamenda III Subdivision, Ayuni Austin Sakah, representing the administration as the Supervisory Authority, addressed the councilors. He highlighted key governance concerns, notably the council’s role in service delivery despite administrative constraints. He emphasised the importance of strategic engagement with national institutions to address issues such as the expansion of the council’s representation.
“The population of Bamenda III is growing rapidly, and the call for an increase in councillors is legitimate. However, such changes must be tied to official population census figures. The last census was in 2005, and without updated data, administrative decisions remain based on those figures. I advise the council executive to write to the National Institute of Statistics to request a population projection. If validated, it can serve as the basis for requesting an increase in the number of councillors.” the DO advised concerning issues raised by Councilor Nforche Robert on the number of councilors despite increase in population.
Reflecting on the past year’s achievements, Mayor Fongu expressed satisfaction with the council’s performance.
“The 2024 administrative account has been approved at 754 million CFA francs, and we are comfortable with how we managed the available resources in the interest of our people. We have constructed roads, provided drinking water, electricity, assisted persons with disabilities, supported youth employment initiatives, and undertaken projects such as classroom and bridge construction.” he said
Looking ahead, the mayor outlined key projects for 2025, including the tarring of the road from Government Teachers’ Training College (GTTC) to St Paul Junction, fencing the Nkwen Integrated Health Centre, and enhancing the council’s water project to improve circulation.
“We aim to ensure that every household that previously had water continues to receive it. Additionally, we plan to rehabilitate several roads and construct farm-to-market roads to boost local economy,” he added.
Councillors including Azinue Ngufor, Mufula Albert, George Muforza, Forche Robert, Acho Franklin, and Bonghabi Bernadette commended the council executive, affirming that the executed projects align with the community’s expectations and aspirations. They acknowledged the mayor’s leadership in prioritising essential infrastructure and social services.
The session emphasised the importance of strategic planning, community engagement, and administrative collaboration in ensuring Bamenda III’s sustainable development. With an ambitious 2025 roadmap, with the Mayor reaffirming that the council remains committed to improving living standards and promoting inclusive growth in the municipality.
